What do the thumper and worm do on a 6 gallon copper still?
The thumper sits between the pot and the condenser. Vapor bubbles through it and gets a second chance to separate, and you'll hear it thump, which is where the name comes from. The worm is the coiled condenser. It sits in cool water, where the vapor turns back into liquid. Together they turn a simple pot into a complete setup you can study and improve.
